ABOUT ALASKA TRI-ASPIRE TEAM:

The Alaska Tri-Aspire team isa professional triathlon team composed of 2 of the world’s best professional triathlon athletes and 5 Filipino elite development athletes. The Alaska Tri-Aspire team aims to produce legitimate professional athletes who can compete in the 5i50, 70.3 IronMan, XTERRA events and athletes who canrepresent the Philippines in the Asian Beach Games, Asian Games and Olympic games.

Members of the team are professional athletes Pete Jacobs from Australia who is the 2012 Ironman World Champion and Caroline Steffen from Switzerland who is an ITU World Long Distance Champion and multiple Ironman champion.The Filipino Elite composed of Banjo Norte, Jenny Rose Guerrero, JonardSaim and Juan Carlos Abadwill be under Coach Mathieu O’Halloran’s guidance in training to become a world-class team that can represent the country in triathlon races worldwide. The elite team is mainly composed of Filipino athletes because Alaska Milk Corp. wanted to focus on developing and nurturinggrassroots talents.

Alaska holds “The Power of Tri: 3 Weekends, 3 great sports events”


The best things in life truly come in threes as Alaska unveiled in "The Power of Tri: 3 Weekends, 3 Great Sports Events” Press Conferencelast May 16 at the Seda Hotel, Bonifacio Global City. The three sport events will compose of swim, bike, and run events – Alaska IronKids Philippines Aquathlon, Alaska Cycle Philippines, and Alaska World Milk Day Family Run.

Alaska has teamed up with Cycle Asia, a network of premier cycling events and Sunrise Events to launch the Alaska Cycle Philippines whereFilipino riders willgear up for three days of thrilling bike action from May 16 to 18 with the children’s race happening on May 17 and May 18 for the adults.


The event will cater to cyclists of all ages and abilities with different categories like the Tricycle Ride which is specially designed for young kids between ages 2 and 5, the Junior Challenge which is a more challenging category designed for older children where they have to ride as fast as they can within 30 minutes and then there’s the Foldies Community Ridewhich is catered to the popular folding bikes cycling community. The Alaska Cycle Philippines will also be a “Bike Ride Out”, meaning there will be no winners just plain fun to promote participation and most especially good health and an active lifestyle.






Alaska IronKids Philippines Aquathlon on the other hand will be held on May 25 at Club Manila East, Taytay, Rizal.Alaska IronKids Philippines is the local junior version of the international triathlon series, IronMan. The race is open to children six to 14 years old.

On June 1, Alaska will hold the Alaska World Milk Day Family Run along 30th Street corner 9th Avenue at the Bonifacio Global City. Registration is open until May 25 and categories include 3K for individuals and family, 5K and 10K races. This event will be fun filled for the whole family and there will be series of activities and simultaneous events from different parts of the country.

"We are excited to continue an active year of Alaska Sports with the launch of the three events Alaska Cycle Philippines, Alaska IronKids Philippines Aquathlon and the Alaska World Milk Day Family run. Alaska teamed up with international partners to ensure that Filipino families participate in sports activities as exercise to promote their health and ensure a wholesome lifestyle," said Uytengsu.

The 7th National Nutrition Survey, done by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute and the Department of Health, showed that obesity is increasing with nearly two out 10 children considered as overweight. Under-nutrition is also a public health concern affecting nearly three out 10 children. Alaska promotes nutrition through its leading brands, Alaska Powdered Milk Drink and Alaska Chocolate Powdered Milk Drink and through educating the public about the importance of drinking milk and keeping an active and healthy lifestyle.

Alaska promotes a holistic sports development program for the whole family and encourages a healthy and active lifestylethrough biking, swimming and running. Alaska’s Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars

The national coaches and the top ten boys and top five girls who are now the Jr. NBA All-Stars and Jr. WNBA Top 5 for the year 2014 were finally chosen last April 27 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Hall.

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Stars and National coaches will be given the experience of a lifetime as they go on a trip to watch an NBA game and get the chance to meet some of their favorite NBA players. Last year, the Jr. NBA team met NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and watched a regular season game of the Los Angeles Lakers against the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center.

Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz and WNBA Legend Tina Thompson, one of the greatest WNBA players of all time, came to Manila and helped run the National Training Camp. They also coached the second annual Jr. NBA Alumni All-Star game featuring past Jr. NBA standouts. Hayward and Thompson followed BJ Armstrong, AC Green, Luc Longley and MugsyBogues as NBA Players/ Legends who have been part of Jr. NBA-Alaska youth basketball program in the Philippines.

The best local basketball coaches, led by Alaska and PBA legend JojoLastimosa joined NBA coach Chris Sumner in conducting the clinics for the coaches and the players during the regional selection camps. The players were judged not just on their basketball skills but on STAR values of practicing Sportsmanship, Teamwork, positive Attitude and Respect for others at all times.

                      







Coach Cliff Andy Tesocan of Tacloban, Leyte was named as the Jr. NBA Coach of the Year while Coach Ma. PiaDysangco of Tondo, Manila became the Jr. WNBA Coach of the Year. RhayyanAmsali of Zamboanga (but studies in Manila) and Christiana Dimaunahan of Manila were picked as Alaska Sports Youth Ambassador for the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA, respectively.

The lucky boys and girls who now comprise the 2014 Jr. NBA All-Stars and Jr. WNBA Top 5 are: Vince Leo Dolendo (Iloilo RSC but from Antique), Andrew Velasco (Cebu), Luigi Velasco (Manila), David Leandro Umadhay (Iloilo RSC but from Antique), JethroRocamora (Cebu)- smallest in the team, Paul Matthew Manalang (Manila), John Richard Gan (Iloilo), Sam Josef Belangel (Bacolod), Jan Cyril Narvasa (Manila) and RhayyanAmsali (Manila) for the Jr. NBA All-Stars and Mary Jean Pascual, Karl Ann Pingol, Arielle Lanot, Roxanne Salvador, Kreecie Bettina Binaohan for the Jr. WNBA Top 5. Incidentally the girls are the very first batch of Jr. WNBA players here in the Philippines.

67th PAF Anniversary Fun Run



For the past two years, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) organized the PAF Anniversary Fun Run which attracted some 2,000 running enthusiasts. The event successfully raised funds for the dependents of Philippine Air Force Personnel who were either Killed-in-Action (KIA) or was totally incapacitated while in line of duty. This event has been an annual project of the Philippine Air Force in order to uplift the morale and welfare of its personnel and their families/dependents.

In line with that noble advocacy and as part of the 67th PAF Pre-Anniversary activities, the PAF will again conduct the “Takbo ng Hukbong Himpapawid para sa Karunungan at  Kinabukasan ng Kabataan 2014” on 01 June 2014 at  Liwasang Ulalim CCP Complex Pasay City. The activity will include a 3km, 5km, 10km and 21km runs which will be open to all ages. Proceeds of the event will go to the scholarship program for the dependents of Philippine Air Force Personnel who were either Killed-in-Action or totally incapacitated while in line of duty.

Our soldiers, civilian employees, military dependents and civilians, both young and old will be participating in the said activity. This running event will surely foster camaraderie and solidarity among the members of your Air Force and civilian populace, as it is an avenue to promote good health and wellness.
