Alaska IronKids uphold the meaning of a true champion...

Cebu, Philippines - August 1 was a memorable day for our Alaska IronKids as they participate in the Alaska IronKids support Gatas for Breakfast, a practice run for a good cause. It was an enriching experience for the IronKids participants as they not only practiced running with the Ironman Pros like Pete Jacobs, Caroline Steffen, Belinda Granger, and Alaska Tri-Aspire Team Coach Mat O’Halloran, Banjo Norte and Jenny Guerrero, they also shared a nutritious breakfast with milk to over 1,500 young students of Mactan Elementary School. This effort to foster a healthy consciousness among individuals and families—through the combination of exercise and proper nutrition—is Alaska’s way in helping fight against the increasing number of overweight and undernourished children in the country. Having a healthy and active lifestyle does not only involve physical activity but also proper nutrition, living up to Alaska’s key meesage, Nutrition.Action.Champion.

Start the day right with Gatas for Breakfast!

Alaska IronKids Philippines supports Gatas for Breakfast, a practice run for a good cause that aims to encourage more and more Filipino children to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.

On August 1 in Cebu, all AlaskaIronKids participants will have an opportunity to practice running for their August 3 race with IronMan champions like Pete Jacobs, Caroline Steffen, Alaska Tri-Aspire Team Coach Matt O’Halloran and Filipino Elites Banjo Norte and Jenny Guerrero. It will be an enriching activity for the children because after the practice run, the event will be followed by the “Alaska IronKids supports Gatas for Breakfast”, a milk drinking acitivty for the students of Mactan Elementary School.IronKids will share a nutritious breakfast with Alaska milk to over 1,500 young students to support the Alaska Gatas for Breakfast movement.

The Alaska Gatas for Breakfast movement, which kicked-off last June 1 during the Alaska World Milk Day, encourages everyone to start their day right with a nutritious breakfast with Alaska milk. This effort to foster a healthy consciousness among individuals and families—through the combination of exercise and proper nutrition—is Alaska’s way in helping fight against the increasing number of overweight and undernourished children in the country.

According to the 7th National Nutrition Survey conducted by the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) 2 out of 10 Filipino children, 10 years old and below, are overweight while 3 of 10 children are undernourished. This results were not surprising since children todayprefer to stay indoors, glued to the TV or playing videogames instead of playing outside with their friends. But the inactive landscape is slowly changing in recent years, thanks to pioneering sports programs like the Alaska IronKids Philippines.

Alaska IronKids Philippines is the country’s very first triathlon event for the youth.Since holding its first race in 2010, the local triathlon series has grown in leaps and bounds, grooming young triathletes that have become the pride of the Philippines in international competitions. Being the local junior version of the international triathlon series, IronMan, Alaska IronKids Philippines has produced champions, on and out of the podiums— children who have learned the values of determination, hard work, teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship from their experiences in the race.

This August 3, young Filipino triathletes will once again race each other as they all head off to Cebu for this year’s highly anticipated Alaska IronKids Triathlon.Hundreds of children, 6 to 14 years old, have already registered for the annual race. The race is open to children that are new to the sport as well as those who have already competed in other sporting events.Alaska IronKids Philippines has also added the Play Category for this year since the regular participants have already progressed into competitive racing. The Play Category gives first time racers a fun racing experience with shorter distances and less pressured time.

Alaska IronKids Philippines Triathlon aims to promote among children the importance of good nutrition and active lifestyle in a fun and exciting way that will get them “to go out and play”. It hopes to get them on the path toward an active and healthy lifestyle that does not only involve physical activity but also proper nutrition, living up to Alaska’s key message, Nutrition. Action. Champion.

PIOLO’S SON IÑIGO JOINS DAD AS SUN LIFE BRAND AMBASSADOR

Piolo Pascual’s very own son Iñigo is joining him as a brand ambassador for Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc., officially marking the 16-year old boy’s entry into the limelight.

The two will lead Sun Life’s new Brighter Life campaign that promotes the importance of raising a financially prepared generation. According to Sun Life Chief Marketing Officer Mylene Lopa, the company aims to emphasize that it is the responsibility of the older generation to educate the youth about managing finances. “Piolo and Iñigo are perfect for this campaign because they not only understand what it is we’re trying to promote, but they actually practice it in real life,” she said.

Piolo confirmed this, saying that he and Inigo’s mother try their best to teach him early on about handling money. “We’re very lucky because Iñigo understands the value of hard work, and is also, by nature, a humble and kind person. We complement this by being good role models to him,” he said.

Meanwhile, despite having an A-list celebrity for a father who’s able to provide him with a comfortable life in the States, Iñigo is also not very materialistic. “If I do want to ask for something, I tell my parents. But I know that I have to wait for it because they usually give it as a reward, like if I do good in school,” he shared.

The new campaign for Sun Life is the first time that the father and son are doing a major project together. “Sun Life is family to Iñigo and me, and we have a long-term plan with them,” Piolo said. “This campaign echoes what I personally want for my son – to protect the future of the next generation.”

A long time endorser of Sun Life, Piolo has always been an advocate of financial literacy, having been raised by a mom who instilled in him early on the value of good money habits. This is a lesson that Piolo would like to pass on to Inigo, and help spread among Filipinos thru Sun Life’s Brighter Life campaign.

Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc. is a member of the Sun Life Financial group of companies, a leading international financial services organization providing a diverse range of protection and wealth products and services to individuals and corporate customers. Sun Life Financial and its partners have operations in key markets worldwide, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, India, China, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and Bermuda. As of March 31, 2013, the Sun Life Financial group of companies had total assets under management of $670 billion. For more information, visit www.sunlife.com.
